Further to the notice sent to members on 19 December about the Government’s declaration of new Tier 4 rules and how they might affect the club, we have now had guidance from the RYA on what is and is not permissible. The good news is that unlike in November, the Club does not have to close.  Members may continue to sail their boats at any time between 0900 hrs and sunset, however The club gates will be padlocked at all [...]

December 2020 Covid-19 Update

Reopening from 2 December 2020 We are delighted to confirm that, in line with Government and RYA guidance, the club will open again for sailing when the lock-down ends on 2 December 2020.  However, unless there is a change of Government plans this week, the Club will be in a Covid-19 Tier 3 area. Hopefully, this will not last beyond the review on 16 December 2020. The Government does not recognise recreation as a valid reason to enter a Tier [...]

November 2020 News Update

Club closure Further to the note sent around to members last night, the Club’s Flag Officers have met to consider the RYA’s legal advice to all sailing clubs about the meaning of the lock-down regulations just announced by the Government.  Sadly, it is clear that BBSC must close to members for at least the next four weeks with no access allowed to the club or grounds.  We thus return to Stage 1 of the Club’s Road Map to recover from [...]

Windsurfing and SUP through the ages

Over the years windsurfing kit has changed considerable and we are sure our members and others have fond memories of driving to the beach or to Bough Beech, rigging up and getting on the water.  As a new person rediscovering the joy of windsurfing I am amazed at how easy the modern kit makes for learning and advancing.  I have some good memories of me cutting down dagger boards, cutting up booms and rolling sails around the mast just so [...]

Windsurfing and SUPing Interest Grows

One of the unforeseen benefits of the current pandemic (there haven’t been many!) is that all summer we have been able to use the lake during daytime under buddy rules.  This has enabled many to enjoy the lake and discover the fun of simply sailing, more so with the growing number of windsurf members. There has even been a member out on a windsurf foil board which has raised a bit of a chat with the local fishermen.   We [...]

Update on BBSC Plans for September

Covid 19 The Club has amended the risk assessment for the current Stage 3 management of the pandemic to reflect changes we have made to allow some training, boat hire and the schools to return at the start of their autumn term.  The latest version is here. BBSC Solos take part in a national multi-venue event

Five of our Solo fleet joined over 100 Solos from 25 clubs throughout Britain that took part in a first ever multi-venue GPS-monitored race organised by Sailracer. The aim is to see which boat could record the fastest average time over two races when allowances were made for varying local conditions and course lengths, (how do they do that?!) Results will be announced on 21 July at a massive Zoom prizegiving. A huge thank you to George Smith who helped [...]
