Welcome to the Bough Beech Solo Fleet page

The Solo dinghy is a recently adopted class at Bough Beech.

The Solo is a classic ‘one design’ single-hander, originally designed by Jack Holt in 1956. The Solo has a doubled chine hull and a fully battened mainsail. Hulls can be built in either wood, FRP, GRP or composite. It has a low aspect ratio sail plan and is relatively stable and yet exciting to sail.

There are a wide selection of builders and sail makers to choose from and the choice of rigs available means it can be sailed competitively by sailors of different weights from 65 to 100 kilos.

Its durability and popularity is thanks to its outstanding design by Jack Holt.  The class is very popular throughout the UK, Holland and Australia.  In recent times, the Class has seen approximately 100 new boats built a year.

The Solo Class has a full Open Meeting calendar with regional prizes.  In addition there are a number of Championship events throughout the year.

Bough Beech presently has 23 registered boats. There are two class races on a Sunday morning with the fleet joining in the general handicap race in the afternoon.

There will be a Solo Open Meeting at BBSC on Saturday 5 October, and a traning day on a date yet to be fixed.  There is also a old BBSC fleet Solo that can be borrowed for trials - contact the Class Captain.
